Ghanaian goalkeeper Lord Bawa Martey has launched his own elite goalkeeping gloves named ‘LB’ to support local talent.
‘LB,’ which literally means Lord Bawa, was birthed with the purpose of empowering local goalkeepers in Ghana.
Bawa Martey, a former Ghana Premier League product who kept the post for Elmina Sharks and Dreams FC, says goalkeepers must feel the professionalism of their career through gloves.
According to him, with the experience garnered from playing in Ghana, some of these clubs pay little to these goalkeepers, which makes it extremely tough to get gloves at high prices.
He argued that some of these gloves are not up to the standard of the ones used abroad, stressing that his are of high quality with good latex, which is suitable for all weather conditions.
“I played in the Ghana Premier League for a while, and I know how some clubs pay little to footballers. Some gloves are priced between GH₵700 and GH₵1,000 cedis, which makes it tough for goalkeepers to get quality gloves to use,” he told KobbyKyeinews.com in an interview.
“My gloves are made of quality and good latex grip, which is suitable for all weather situations. Because most people can’t distinguish between good and bad gloves, I used the giga and acqua latex, which goes for either the wet or dry season,” Bawa added.
Speaking on the price and its affordability, Bawa Martey emphasized that he wants goalkeepers to feel comfortable and confident in the post with low compared to others.
Bawa Martey caught the eye of many Premier League clubs while playing for Division One club Proud United.
His exploits secured him a move to Elmina Sharks in 2019, where he stayed with the club until 2022 before moving to Dreams FC for two seasons.
Currently, the goalkeeper-cum-pharmacist plies his trade with RedStar FC in Saudi Arabia.
