Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has instructed the Clerk to Parliament to deduct ₵1,000 from the November salaries of all 276 Members of Parliament to aid the Breast Society of Ghana in its fight against breast cancer.
Speaker Bagbin made the announcement during a parliamentary sitting, emphasizing the importance of collective action in addressing public health challenges. He also pledged to top up the total contribution to ₵300,000, highlighting Parliament’s commitment to promoting health and saving lives.
“This gesture is a demonstration of Parliament’s support for the fight against breast cancer, which continues to affect many Ghanaian women and families,” the Speaker stated. He encouraged other institutions and individuals to contribute to the cause and help reduce the prevalence of breast cancer in the country.
The Breast Society of Ghana has been at the forefront of awareness creation and early detection campaigns, stressing that timely diagnosis can save lives. The donation from Parliament is expected to significantly boost its nationwide advocacy and outreach programs.
