One Taguig Football Club center back, Frank Akoto, says it “takes a lot out of you” to keep getting setbacks when trying to return from injuries.
The Ghanaian defender suffered a long-term injury in his maiden campaign that left him sidelined for months as he has stepped up an intensive rehabilitation process.
Frank joined in the first round of the Philippines’ top-flight league after missing a couple of matches; he made an instant impact, playing regularly to cement his spot in the team.
Despite playing only 7 games, the former Legon Cities man scored 4 goals, aiding his club to a second-place finish in the 2025-26 season, trailing by two points behind winners Manila Digger FC.
Frank, 28, says he is recovering well and hopes to be fit and return to the field soon.
“Personally, it was challenging due to the injury; it was going so well for me until the injury robbed me.” Frank told KobbyKyeinews.
“Still not fully recovered, but it’s getting better. I’m working effectively to return to full fitness,” he explained.
Akoto is edging close to his contract expiration, and when quizzed if he still has a future with the Philippines side, he said he’s focused on his recovery.
“For now I don’t know; they really want me to stay, but first I need to focus on my recovery, though it’s possible.”
“I want to be fit to play, but let’s see; maybe things might change, but for now all my focus is on my recovery,” Frank added.
Akoto also played for Heart of Lions and Ashgold SC, where he received a few call-ups to join the Ghana U23 team as part of a local training camp before the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations.
