The youth of Ashaiman have a new voice in governance following the election of Jawhara Alhassan as the constituency’s new Youth Member of Parliament.
Jawhara emerged victorious after an online poll conducted on September 5, 2026. Alhassan steps into the role, ready to champion youth-centered development, grassroots empowerment, and policy advocacy for the municipality.
Having demonstrated her passion and dedication to making a meaningful impact, Jawhara has curved a career path in student politics through her leadership in event coordination, public engagement, and advocacy.
Jawhara’s leadership qualities have not gone unnoticed throughout her journey at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she assumed various leadership positions during her four-year stay as a biochemistry student.
The outspoken Jawhara served as the Secretary for KNUsT’s Tertiary Education Institution Networks (TEIN) Electoral Commission, National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS)-KNUST, as the programs and projects committee coordinator, among others.
During her high school days at the T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, the young and ambitious Jawhara took up the role as Deputy Organizer of the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA) and the Representative of the Students Representative Council (SRC).
Jawhara’s commitment to thrive and serve diligently has seen her being honored and recognized for her service of acts by NUGS and the award for the Best Political Icon by the Ghana Biochemistry Student’s Association (GHABSA).
With her new portfolio as the Ashaiman Youth Member of Parliament, Jawhara is keen on bridging the gap between the youth and the government in line with Ghana’s commitment to the African Youth Charter and Sustainable Development Goal 16, which calls for inclusive and accountable governance.
The Youth of Parliament was established to create a structured platform for young people in Ghana to engage in governance, policy dialogue, and civic education, where young Ghanaians will have the opportunity to debate issues, propose solutions, and develop leadership skills.
It was initiated by youth-focused organizations and civil society groups working in partnership with the National Youth Authority with the core of empowering Ghanaian youth with the knowledge, confidence, and networks to take active roles in shaping the nation’s future.
The Youth of Parliament gives young people the chance to represent their constituents and have their voices heard.
Also provides practical experience in leadership, governance, public speaking, policy-making, and parliamentary procedures.
