Life has a way of surprising people when they least expect it. For Prophet Dr. Emmanuel Akwasi Boakye, popularly known as Ogyaba, what began as public ridicule on social media has become one of the most remarkable testimonies of his life.
Today, the Ghanaian actor is celebrating an international breakthrough that he believes could only have been orchestrated by God.
Long before he became known for his ministry, Ogyaba nurtured a childhood dream. Inspired by Chinese action movies, he trained in martial arts, not with the intention of fighting, but with the hope that one day he would feature in action films.
“I told myself the karate I learned would not be used to fight people. I wanted to use it in movies,” he recalled during an appearance on Atinka TV’s Entertainment Lounge hosted by Roman Fada.

His acting journey started under the direction of actress Nana Ama McBrown, in spite of his church being used by them to shoot a movie together with Asofo Aware. From there, he featured in several Kumawood productions, including Mma Ehintasem.
Yet, despite years of preparation, the opportunity he had been waiting for came from the most unlikely source – a viral video intended to mock him.
According to Ogyaba, a blogger he frequently accuses of targeting him, posted a video of him training and ridiculed him on social media. The video attracted massive attention, with many people laughing and making negative comments.
But while others saw a joke, someone else saw potential. A major Chinese film production company reportedly came across the viral video and became curious about the man behind it. The producers investigated his influence across Africa and eventually reached out to him.
“They were looking for a dark, smart actor who could perform martial arts,” he said.

What followed felt like a dream. The production company flew him to China on a business-class ticket, handled his medical examinations, provided insurance, and sent him a script. After weeks of preparation, including learning boxing techniques for a fight scene, Ogyaba arrived on set.
His performance exceeded expectations.
“When I entered the ring, they were impressed,” he said with excitement. The project, titled Black Thorn, is expected to introduce him to a global audience. He revealed that the experience has already opened more international doors, including a potential future collaboration with legendary martial arts actor Jet Li.

For Ogyaba, the greatest lesson is not about fame or money. It is about God’s ability to transform attacks into opportunities. “The blogger wanted to damage my brand, but God used it to bless me,” he said. “When people try to destroy me, they end up invoking my blessings.”
Rather than harboring bitterness, he says he is grateful for the unexpected publicity. In fact, he jokingly promised to give the blogger $100 whenever they met as a token of appreciation.
Looking back, Ogyaba says standing among international actors and film professionals felt unreal.
“It was like I was dreaming. A Kumawood actor had become an international actor.”

His story is a powerful reminder that sometimes the very thing meant to embarrass a person becomes the vehicle for their elevation. What started as mockery on social media became a passport to the world stage.
For Ogyaba, it is proof that when God decides to lift someone, even their critics unknowingly become part of the miracle.
