The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso Central, Hon. Abdul Rauf Tubazu, has supported over 400 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates as they prepare to enter into various senior high and technical schools this September.
Dubbed “MP’s Education Package,” the gesture was to support needy students in the Ayawaso Central Constituency.
Also, to improve the quality of education while reducing the financial burden on students ahead of the new academic calendar.
Students from Kotobabi, Accra Newtown, Alajo, and some part of Abelenkpe assemblies at the forecourt of the District Education Office on Wednesday were provided with mattresses and chop boxes as they embarked on their new academic journey.
Speaking at the short ceremony, Hon. Rauf Tubazu said the gesture forms part of his desire to improve education in his constituency while ensuring parents’ pressure is reduced.
“The little I can do to reduce the burden on your parents. I know it does not cover all the cost, but at least it provides some relief and gives some peace of mind to the kids as well,” he said.
He advised the students to stay away from immoral acts, stick to their books, and make the right decisions, which will better their lives.
“Make the right decisions so life will be better for you. You are adolescents now, and I will encourage you to stay away from drugs and boy-girl relationships because they won’t help you. This is the time for you to stick to your books,” Hon. Tubazu added.
The Municipal Director of Education for the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Michael Addo, lauded the lawmaker for stepping in to support parents.
He urged Hon. Tubazu to increase the number of items distributed as the constituency continues to have an increased number of junior high school graduates annually.
“This is a wonderful project by the Member of Parliament. Last year 200 mattresses were distributed to these students, and this year, he is doing 400 distributions of mattresses. We hope the number will increase to 800,” Mr. Addo said.
A parent who was a beneficiary spoke to KobbyKyeinews anonymously and thanked the MP for the timely intervention.
According to her, she was left with a mattress and a chop box for his son, who has been placed in the Easter Region but was financially handicapped.
“I’ve been able to purchase everything on the prospectus, but I’m left with a chop box and mattress. Thankfully Hon. Rauf (MP) for Ayawaso Central has provided one for us, and I did not pay any money for that. “A happy mother shared.
Another who had his share of the items was full of praise for the soft-spoken MP.
“All I can say is we are grateful to Hon. Rauf Tubazu for supporting these kids. The mattress and chop box are well appreciated. We pray he continues with this gesture year after year for us. “A father said.
Hon. Rauf Tubazu added that plans are underway to have a senior high school put up in the Ayawaso Central Constituency, as he has already engaged all the relevant stakeholders and the process has begun.
