Newly appointed Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Hoaudjeto, has emphatically stated that she will not scrap the Beyond The Return initiative introduced by the NPP government but would rather build on it to help the country.
“We are not here to scrap any program that did well for the country, we are not here to replace other programs, we are here to fuse all of it into what will generate the numbers” she told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s weekly entertainment show, Showbiz A-Z.
Beyond the Return” is a follow-up to the successful “Year Of Return” Ghana 2019 campaign which commemorated the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first recorded enslaved Africans in Jamestown Virginia in 1619.
The landmark campaign also celebrated the resilience of the African over the past 400 years and welcomed all people of African origin to return to Africa especially Ghana.
The Year of Return and Beyond the Return campaigns have had a profound and lasting impact on domestic tourism and marketing in Ghana.
These initiatives have brought global attention to the country and inspired Ghanaians to reconnect with their history and culture.
Mr. Akwasi Agyeman who many believe was one of the well performed appointees under the Nana Akuffo Addo led government is the mighty brain behind this great initiative.
On February 3, 2025, the newly appointed boss of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Hoaudjeto appeared at the office for the first time meeting the outgoing boss, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman for a beautiful transition.
Maame Efua after since her appointment has openly acknowledged the efforts of her predecessor on many occasions especially on the said great initiative.
In the interview on Joy Fm with Kwame Dadzie today, She pledged to also put in measures and strategies to promote domestic tourism.
As Maame Efya starts work, her commitment to investing in the enhancement of tourist sites to attract visitors—and, in turn, boost national revenue—has strengthened public confidence.
