The Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Abiba Zakariah, has held discussions with the Vice-Chancellor and Management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on the Campus Care Initiative and other strategic areas aimed at strengthening collaboration between the National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the University.
The engagement brought together key members of the University’s Management, led by Prof. Denis Worlanyo Aheto, Vice-Chancellor of UCC. Also present were Prof. (Mrs.) Christine Adu-Yeboah, Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Mr. Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Esq., Registrar; Mr. George Amfo-Antiri, Director of Finance; and Prof. Daniel Agyapong, Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies.
The Commissioner was accompanied by Madam Nicholina Naa Yeye Adumuah, Regional Head of the National Insurance Commission for the Central Region; Mr. Justice Peprah Agyei, Executive Secretary to the Commissioner of Insurance; Ms. Pearl Elesi Mensah, Administrator of the NIC Cape Coast Office; and Mr. Huzaifa Yusif, Officer at the NIC Cape Coast Office.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss areas of mutual interest, including insurance awareness, research, innovation and capacity-building initiatives within the tertiary education sector.
During the engagement, Dr. Abiba Zakariah highlighted the objectives of the Campus Care Initiative and its potential benefits to students and the wider university community.
The initiative is expected to contribute to increased insurance awareness among students and promote a better understanding of the importance of insurance and risk management among young people in tertiary institutions.
Management of UCC expressed its willingness to partner with the Commission on various initiatives and proposed several areas of collaboration to support insurance education, research and the development of the insurance industry.
The discussions also focused on the importance of strengthening the relationship between academia and the insurance sector through knowledge-sharing, research and innovation.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a strong and sustainable partnership and working together on initiatives that will benefit students, the University of Cape Coast and the insurance industry.
The collaboration is expected to provide a platform for advancing insurance education and awareness while creating opportunities for research, innovation and capacity development that can contribute to the growth of Ghana’s insurance sector.
