New Crystal Hospital CEO Dr Amegbletor Commends New NHIA Reforms

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the New Crystal Hospital, Dr. Wisdom Amegbletor, has lauded the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIA) under Dr. Victor Bampoe for introducing progressive reforms and workplace wellness initiatives that strengthen partnerships with private healthcare providers.

According to Dr. Amegbletor, these recent healthcare reforms are monumental steps toward achieving universal health coverage in Ghana.

Speaking on the impact, he empathized that the changes will significantly ease the financial burden on patients while fostering a stronger and more sustainable partnership between the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and private health facilities.

He lauded the bold steps by Dr. Bampoe to expand coverage while thanking President Mahama for ensuring a much more stable exchange rate.

He stressed that the government’s effort to ensure a stagnant rate has helped most private hospitals to cover the extra cost of treatment for patients who are registered to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

“Through these reforms, some of us (private hospitals) have been able to expand treatment while ensuring good health care delivery with health insurance entities. It’s a good step in the right direction. I have to commend my boss, Dr. Bampoe, for his leadership and dedication to ensure every stakeholder benefits. Also to President Mahama, who has shown commitment to ensure a steady exchange rate,” Dr. Amegbletor stated.

The NHIA in August launched the ’80 Campaign’ alongside a series of financial and digital reforms aimed at expanding National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) membership and improving access to quality healthcare.

The campaign, under the slogan “From 70 to 80 – Let’s Cover More,” sought to increase active NHIS membership from the current 70% to 80% by the end of 2026.

Dr. Amegbletor encouraged all and sundry to register for an NHIA card and advised earlier treatment and regular checkups to manage one’s long-term being.
