Woman Arrested For Acid Attack On Ex-Lover In Accra

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old woman, Mavis Nkrumah, for allegedly pouring a liquid substance suspected to be acid on her ex-boyfriend, Gideon Frimpong, a 29-year-old taxi driver.

The incident occurred on May 28, 2025, at Ablekuma Fan Milk, a suburb of Accra, according to press statement signed by head of public affairs, Ghana Police Service, Mrs. Juliana Obeng

According to preliminary investigations, Mavis appeared unannounced at Gideon’s residence at approximately 1:00 a.m. and asked him to drive her home.

During the journey, Gideon stopped the vehicle due to rough terrain, and Mavis questioned him about their relationship.

After Gideon confirmed their breakup for the third time, Mavis allegedly poured the substance suspected to be acid on him.

The victim was identified by passersby and rushed to the hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries and was later discharged.

Mavis fled the scene and attempted to escape to a neighboring country but was arrested by the police on June 3, 2025.

She is currently in custody, assisting the police with their investigations.

The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving issues, warning that acts of violence will be dealt with by the law.

The Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and urges all to report suspicious or harmful behavior promptly to the nearest police station.
