Hon. Samuel Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, has assured Ghanaians that the cost of data will see a significant reduction by the end of 2025.
Speaking at the commemoration of the 2025 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on May 19, he emphasized that his ministry is collaborating with key stakeholders in the telecommunications sector to make data more affordable.
Addressing concerns raised on social media regarding the progress of a task force he established in February, Minister George clarified that the committee’s primary role was not to directly reduce tariffs.
Instead, it was tasked with developing a comprehensive roadmap to guide future price reductions. “When I set up that committee, I did not say that in 14 days they would reduce data prices,” he explained.
He urged the public to remain patient as the telecommunications sector recovers from eight years of policy distortions under the previous administration.
“We are dealing with eight years of distortion in the market,” he said. “I wish I could fix it immediately, but I must avoid creating further distortions by acting irrationally.”
