The Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Mrs. Mary Awelana Addah, has urged parents — especially mothers — to refrain from cursing their children in times of disappointment or anger, stressing the importance of forgiveness in parenthood.

Speaking on a special Mother’s Day edition of Efi Sem on Atinka FM, hosted by Akosua High Tension, Mrs. Addah likened children to farmlands that need constant care.

“Your children are like your farm — you must weed, fertilize, water, and nurture them to grow. Don’t be a parent that curses. Let’s rather change them through positive words,” – she advised.

She emphasized that though some children may behave in ways that hurt their parents, reacting with bitterness only worsens the situation.

“Some of their actions are painful, but if you keep their wrongdoings in you, you’ll end up with hypertension. Just see them as amateurs, still learning life.”

Mrs. Addah reminded listeners of the Christian foundation of forgiveness, stating, “We should remember that Christ died for us. Forgiveness is very critical. Let’s emulate that love in how we handle our children.”

The GII boss concluded by calling on parents to replace curses with continuous encouragement, prayer, and constructive correction — especially in an age where children face increasing societal pressures.

Her message has been widely praised by social media users and child advocacy groups, many of whom described it as timely and impactful.
