Ghana’s Tourism Sector Sees 12% Surge In International Visitors

Ghana has recorded a significant increase in international visitors, welcoming a total of 1,288,804 tourists in 2024. This represents a 12% rise from the previous year, reaffirming the country’s position as a top destination in West Africa.

According to the Ghana Tourism Authority’s latest Tourism Performance Report, the main purposes of travel to Ghana were:

  • Business: 22.43%
  • Holidays/Vacations: 22.15%
  • Visits to Family & Friends: 22.29%
  • Study or Teaching: 7.06%

The remaining percentage was attributed to conferences, cultural events, transit, and sports.

In terms of entry points, over 1.13 million arrivals were recorded through Kotoka International Airport. Additionally, Aflao, Elubo, and Paga were among the top land entry points.

This impressive growth in tourism is a testament to Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. The country’s well-developed infrastructure and diverse attractions have clearly made it an attractive destination for travelers from around the world.

The Ghana Tourism Authority’s report highlights the country’s continued appeal to international visitors, and this growth is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy.
