Ghana Squash President outlines events for 2026, calls for corporate support

The President of the Ghana Squash Association, Reverend Richmond Rexford Quarcoo, says the association has outlined various events that are set to happen as the year 2026 progresses.

According to him, aside from the National Squash Open, which is held annually to test the strength and skills of players, there will be the National Ranking Tournament and other club championships with dates and venues yet to be announced.

He mentioned that the two-day National Squash Open, which will be climaxed today, forms part of the listed events for the year 2026 through the support of Glico.

Speaking to journalists during the opening day on Friday, Mr. Quarcoo disclosed that over 60 top players, including some foreigners, registered to partake in the tournament.

“It’s very encouraging because the feedback we get from players and all other stakeholders is good. There will be a few criticisms, but we take them because it helps us to be better so we can organize it better the next time. But in all, athletes are happy we are doing this,” he said.

He added that the men’s senior, which ends today, will be followed by the women’s senior, the youth championship, and the level 1 coaching course, which is under the auspices of the Ghana Olympic Committee.

“In whole, athletes are happy we put this together, and we have close to six activities before the year ends,” he stated.

Reverend Quarcoo emphasized that such competitions are used to rank players, where they are selected into the national team for any international event.

He urged athletes and other individuals to take up the discipline, adding that there are squash courts in Ghana, while a few are also under construction.

Mr. Quarcoo further advised that young people should channel their energy into squash because of its numerous opportunities.

The reserve president also called for support and partnership from corporate bodies, individuals, and other stakeholders so the sport will continue to thrive.
