CCMA empowers persons with disabilities with equipment and financial assistance

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) has presented working equipment, essential items and financial assistance to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the metropolis to improve their livelihoods and promote social inclusion.

The items were presented on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama by the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. George Justice Arthur.

Speaking at the presentation, Hon. Arthur commended the President for the initiative, noting its importance in creating economic opportunities for persons with disabilities.

He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items and financial assistance for their intended purposes and cautioned them against selling the equipment. He emphasised that the intervention was intended to improve their living conditions and enable them to engage in productive activities.

The Director of Social Welfare at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly also commended President Mahama for the continued release of funds to address the needs of persons with disabilities.

The Director noted that the initiative helps beneficiaries access livelihood opportunities and essential services, while calling for sustained efforts to ensure their meaningful participation in society.

The Disability Common Fund is a government initiative administered through Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to address the needs of persons with disabilities. It provides assistance in areas such as livelihood development, education, healthcare and assistive devices.

The intervention forms part of broader efforts by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly to promote inclusive development and improve opportunities for persons with disabilities in the metropolis.
