In the ongoing battle against galamsey, many people are playing their part, and the media is leading from the front. Some journalists have stepped out of their studios and into dangerous mining sites, risking their lives to expose the harsh realities of illegal mining.
One of them is Erastus Asare Donkor, an award-winning environmental journalist with the Multimedia Group. He has consistently reported on the devastating effects of illegal mining and amplified the voices of affected communities.

Another fearless journalist is Idan Enock Danquah of Media General, who reports for Onua TV. Idan has boldly confronted illegal miners and joined MMDCEs, police, and security agencies during field operations. His documentaries have sparked national conversations and pushed authorities to act.

Also deserving recognition is Benjamin Antwi of Channel 247 Tv, who has for years reported courageously on galamsey, holding leaders accountable and demanding action.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Upper Denkyira East, Hon.George Anane , has publicly applauded the three journalists for their impactful documentaries in the municipality.
He acknowledged that some illegal mining activities came to his attention only after their investigations and pledged to work collaboratively to address the issues.
He also urged other MMDCEs and the government to recognize and support media practitioners for their dedication, encouraging the journalists to continue their brave work in the national interest.
Indeed, in the fight against galamsey, the media remains a strong force for accountability and change.
