Ghanaian musician OPANKA has shared a powerful and emotional testimony about the life-changing impact of his music, revealing that one of his songs helped save a young lady in the United States from committing suicide.
According to the artist, the song titled “Hold On” became a source of hope for the lady during a very dark period of her life. OPANKA explained that the mother of the said lady later reached out to him to narrate how the lyrics of the song encouraged her to persevere and reconsider her decision at a time when she felt overwhelmed by life’s challenges.
The song was released five years ago and featured phenomenal singer and songwriter, Kofi Kinaata.
Speaking on the influence of music lyrics on personal mindset and human actions, OPANKA made this revelation during a discussion with Odehyie Naana on Atinka TV’s social programme, Efie Asetena.

The artiste emphasized that music goes beyond entertainment and has the power to shape emotions, thoughts, and decisions, especially among young people.
He noted that many musicians often focus solely on the business and commercial side of music, sometimes overlooking its social responsibility. OPANKA therefore urged his colleagues in the music industry to be mindful of the messages they convey in their songs.
“Music is powerful. It can heal, motivate, and save lives just as it can also mislead,” he said. “As musicians, we must remember that children and young people listen to our songs daily, and the lyrics we put out can influence their mindset and actions.”
OPANKA’s story has reignited conversations about the role of music in mental health awareness and social development.
His experience serves as a reminder that meaningful and positive content can have a profound impact, even beyond borders.
The ‘Hold On’ hitmaker concluded by encouraging artistes to strike a balance between creativity, commercial success, and social responsibility, stressing that music with purpose can make a lasting difference in people’s lives.
