Renowned Ghanaian music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has revealed that he is yet to receive payment for a jingle he produced for the 2010 Population and Housing Census a fee of GHS 3,500 that has remained outstanding for 14 years.
According to Fredyma, he was contracted to create the official jingle for the national census, a project executed under the administration of the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills, with John Dramani Mahama as Vice President at the time. Despite completing and delivering the work successfully, he has not been compensated.
In a conversation with Kafui Dey, the celebrated producer expressed disappointment over the long delay and stressed that the amount, though modest, is rightfully his and deserves to be paid.
Fredyma noted that he has made several attempts over the years to retrieve the money but has hit multiple bureaucratic roadblocks. He explained that individuals who managed the project at the time have either left office or are untraceable, making it difficult for him to pursue the issue through regular administrative channels.
He has therefore made a public appeal to former President John Dramani Mahama, who supervised the census project in his capacity as Vice President, to intervene and help ensure the outstanding payment is processed.
Fredyma emphasized that his concern is not just about the money, but about fairness and respect for creative professionals who contribute to national development projects.
