Mahama Appoints Dotsei Malor, Former CDS, 16 Others As Deputy Ambassadors

President John Dramani Mahama has strengthened Ghana’s diplomatic presence abroad with the appointment of 18 Deputy Heads of Mission to serve in various countries across the globe.

The announcement, which was formalized through a presidential directive dated September 11, 2025, includes high-profile figures such as former presidential spokesperson Ben Dotsei Malor and retired Chief of Defence Staff General Thomas Oppong-Peprah.

The appointments represent a strategic move by the Mahama administration to reinvigorate Ghana’s foreign relations by deploying experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds spanning communications, military leadership, and public service.

Ben Dotsei Malor, who previously served as presidential spokesperson during Mahama’s first administration between 2013 and 2017, will take up his position at Ghana’s Embassy in the United States.

His extensive communications expertise and familiarity with American political dynamics are expected to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations during a period of evolving global partnerships.

General Thomas Oppong-Peprah’s diplomatic appointment marks a significant transition from military leadership to foreign service.

The retired four-star general, who became the first officer in Ghana Armed Forces history to achieve that rank, served as Chief of Defence Staff until his retirement in March 2025 after nearly four decades of distinguished military service.

His appointment demonstrates the administration’s confidence in leveraging military discipline and strategic thinking within Ghana’s diplomatic corps.

The 18 appointees will serve in strategic locations spanning multiple continents, reflecting Ghana’s commitment to maintaining robust diplomatic ties across different regions.

Other notable appointees include Alhaji Mohammed Seidu Issah Abah, who will serve in South Africa, and Francis Thalamus Doe, designated for Japan.

The appointments also include postings to Germany and other key diplomatic missions worldwide.

These Deputy Heads of Mission will work alongside the ambassadors and high commissioners whom President Mahama commissioned in September 2025, forming a comprehensive diplomatic team tasked with advancing Ghana’s interests abroad.

The President has consistently emphasized the importance of results-driven diplomacy, urging his envoys to prioritize economic diplomacy and strengthen Ghana’s international partnerships.

The appointments require the appointees to work collaboratively with their respective mission heads to promote Ghana’s economic interests, protect citizens abroad, and enhance the country’s global standing.

This latest wave of diplomatic appointments signals the Mahama administration’s intention to position Ghana strategically within the international community while tapping into the expertise of seasoned professionals from various sectors.

As these newly appointed Deputy Heads of Mission prepare to assume their roles, expectations remain high that their diverse experiences will translate into effective representation of Ghana’s interests on the world stage.
