Sammy Gyamfi Takes The Helm: President Mahama Appoints New Acting MD Of PMMC

In a move aimed at revitalizing Ghana’s gold industry, President John Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi as the acting Managing Director of the Precious Mineral Marketing Company (PMMC).

Gyamfi’s new role comes with a critical task: establishing GOLDBOD, a novel gold trading entity poised to play a vital role in Ghana’s economic development.

As the acting MD of PMMC, Gyamfi will oversee the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources, ensuring that the country’s rich mineral wealth benefits its citizens.

His appointment is a significant step towards fulfilling President Mahama’s campaign promise to establish a gold trading entity that would boost Ghana’s economy.

Gyamfi’s experience as the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and his involvement in various party activities make him an ideal candidate for this role.

However, his appointment has also drawn attention to his past statements, including a controversy surrounding Menzgold payments, where President Mahama clarified that his administration would not pay Menzgold customers.

Additionally, Gyamfi has been involved in a legal dispute with the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation (BOST), Alfred Obeng, who sued him for GhC5 million in damages over alleged defamatory statements ³.

As Gyamfi navigates his new role, he will need to balance his responsibilities with the challenges that come with establishing a new gold trading entity. His success will depend on his ability to effectively manage Ghana’s gold resources, promote transparency, and ensure that the benefits of GOLDBOD are shared equitably among all stakeholders.
