President John Dramani Mahama has launched the GoldBod Taskforce, with a significant incentive for whistleblowers.
The President announced that individuals who provide credible information leading to the recovery of illegal gold or its cash equivalent will receive a 10% reward from the seized assets.
“We want to encourage people to come forward with information that will help us recover our stolen gold,” President Mahama said during the inauguration ceremony.
“If you blow the whistle and gold or money is recovered, you will get 10% of the seized assets.”
The taskforce, comprising trained and vetted personnel from various security agencies, will operate with strict oversight, including body cameras and GPS-tracked vehicles.
The President emphasized that all operations will require proper authorization to ensure accountability.
The launch of the GoldBod Taskforce marks a significant step towards protecting Ghana’s natural resources and promoting transparency in the industry.
