Kwabena Dwumfour Given Green Light For Second Term As GJA President

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has secured a resounding victory to retain his position as President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), trouncing his closest contender Charles Yao Mawusi by a wide margin.

Dwumfour polled 445 votes, representing 65%, while Mawusi managed 245 votes (35%) in what analysts described as a decisive mandate from GJA members across the country.

The elections, held on Monday, 30th June, also saw strong competition across various executive positions, with some surprising upsets and close contests.

In the Vice-Presidential raceRebecca Ekpeconvincingly beat Mary Mensah, polling 414 votes against 272.

For the position of General SecretaryDominic Hlordzi won comfortably with 443 votes, leaving Akwasi Agyeman trailing with 247.

The contest for Organizing Secretary was among the tightest of the night. Suleiman Mustapha narrowly edged out Maxwell Kudekor, securing 365 votes to Kudekor’s 321.

In the Public Relations category, Zadok Kwame Gyesi defeated Caesar Abagali with a significant margin, garnering 431 votes to Abagali’s 253.

Finally, the Treasurer position went to Bertha Badu-Agyei, who polled 401 votes, beating Theodora Amedetor Yakanu who had 287.

The results reflect a vibrant democratic exercise within the GJA, with voter turnout and engagement notably high this year.
