Ghana Theatre Arts In Developing Stage With 3 Major Challenges — Chief Moomen

Ghana’s theatre arts industry has been experiencing a resurgence in recent years, with a new generation of talented artists and entrepreneurs emerging to take the stage.

According to Chief Moomen, a renowned Ghanaian poet, playwright and entrepreneur, Ghana’s theatre arts industry is at a critical juncture, with signs of growth and development.

However, he also pointed out three major challenges that are undermining the rapid growth of the industry.

In an insightful conversation with entertainment journalist, Noella Kharyne Yalley on the Joy News channel, Chief Moomen identified infrastructure, content, and marketing as the three major challenges facing the theatre arts industry in Ghana.

Infrastructure: A Major Hurdle

Chief Moomen lamented the lack of suitable infrastructure for theatre arts in Ghana. According to him, the country doesn’t have enough theatres, and the ones available are not well-equipped.

This lack of infrastructure makes it difficult for artists to stage productions, and for audiences to access live theatre.

Content: A Need for Innovation

Chief Moomen also highlighted the need for innovative and engaging content in Ghanaian theatre.

He believes as a country, we need to create content that resonates with our audience — Content that tells our stories, and reflects our culture and values.

He encouraged artists to experiment with new forms and styles, and to push the boundaries of what is possible in Ghanaian theatre.

Marketing: A Key to Success

Finally, Chief Moomen emphasized the importance of effective marketing in promoting Ghanaian theatre. He says it’s very vital to do better job of marketing our productions, We need to reach out to new audiences, and to create a buzz around our shows.

He encouraged artists to use social media and other digital platforms to promote their work, and to engage with their audiences in new and innovative ways.
