A man posing as a medical doctor has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for impersonation and fraud after luring victims with false promises of international travel opportunities.
In a meticulously planned intelligence-led operation, officers of the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters on Thursday, June 6, 2025, apprehended one Fredrick Papa Kow-Assifuah at Kasoa Crispo City in the Central Region for posing as a medical doctor and defrauding unsuspecting victims.
The suspect, dressed in a white lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck, was arrested while preparing to meet yet another potential victim he had connected with online.
Upon his arrest, police retrieved various medical items from the scene, including two stethoscopes, three intravenous (IV) drips, five syringes, two sample bottles, a roll of plaster, six bottles of vaccines, a Ghanaian passport, and a cash amount of GH¢8,500.
During police interrogation, Kow-Assifuah confessed to impersonating a doctor at the United Brain Hospital located at Mallam, a suburb of Accra.
He further admitted to using his fake medical identity to approach women online, initiating romantic relationships and eventually convincing them to pay money for fabricated travel opportunities to Europe.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court soon.
The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
