EOCO Picks Up Kofi Akpaloo

Percival Kofi Akpaloo, leader and flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) and former 2024 presidential candidate, has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

He was picked up in a dawn operation at his residence in Kumasi on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in a joint effort between EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) and the Ashanti Regional Office.

Reports indicate that the arrest was carried out without incident. He is being transported to Accra to assist investigators with ongoing inquiries. EOCO has yet to release an official statement on the arrest.

Family sources, however, have confirmed the development but stated that no reasons were provided for his detention. His exact location remains unverified.

Kofi Akpaloo is a well-known figure in Ghanaian politics. He founded the Independent People’s Party (IPP) in 2011 before rebranding it into the Liberal Party of Ghana.

He contested the 2020 presidential election and again ran in 2024, though his party has remained a minor force nationally.
