Kofi Kinaata has made history at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), becoming the first artist to win the Songwriter of the Year award five times.
The event took place at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, where Kinaata was honoured for his song Saman.
The ‘Auntie Ama’ hitmaker has long been celebrated for his lyrical prowess and thoughtful songwriting, and this latest recognition further solidifies his reputation as one of Ghana’s most exceptional songwriters.
Kinaata’s previous wins in the Songwriter of the Year category include:
2016: Susuka
2017: Confession
2020: Things Fall Apart
2021: Behind The Scenes
2025: Saman
His songwriting is renowned for its fusion of Fante rap with highlife and hiplife influences, often tackling themes of social responsibility, love, and everyday life in a way that resonates deeply with listeners.
This fifth win not only sets a new record in the category but also reaffirms Kinaata’s place as a leading voice in Ghanaian music.
He recently received the Youth in Entertainment Award at the 2025 Otumfuo Millennium Excellence Awards, and his work has earned praise from notable figures, including Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for its powerful and socially conscious messages.
