The Member of Parliament for the Bosomtwe Constituency and former Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has declared his intention to contest for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum said he will put himself up for the party’s presidential candidate race when nominations are officially opened.
According to him, his decision is driven by a deep sense of duty and commitment to the development of Ghana.
“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the Flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he stated.
Dr. Adutwum, known for his transformative leadership in the education sector, is credited for advancing STEM education and playing a key role in the implementation of the Free SHS policy during his tenure as Minister for Education.
His entry into the race is expected to add a new dimension to the internal contest as the NPP gears up for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
