The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan Yeboah, has commissioned an ultra-modern library at Ekon to provide residents, particularly schoolchildren and students, with a conducive environment for reading, learning and digital education.
The facility, which is open to residents of Ekon and neighbouring communities, features a dedicated learning and reading area, a computer room, a washroom and an office for the librarian.
The library is expected to give students access to a quiet and structured environment for reading, research and learning, while the computer facility will provide an opportunity for young people to improve their digital skills and access educational resources.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, urged the people of Ekon to take ownership of the facility and ensure that it is properly maintained.
According to the MCE, the library belongs to the people of Ekon and Cape Coast at large, stressing that residents must protect and maintain the facility so it can continue serving its intended purpose. He added that proper maintenance of the project would also encourage the MP to consider bringing more development projects to the community.
The commissioning adds to educational infrastructure in the community and provides students with another avenue to supplement classroom learning through reading, research and access to computers.
Residents, parents and students have therefore been encouraged to make effective use of the facility while protecting the books, computers, furniture and other resources to ensure that the library remains a useful educational centre for Ekon and surrounding communities.
