Ghana: Parliament Donates GH₵100,000 To Support Victims Of El-Wak Stadium Tragedy

The Parliament of Ghana has presented a cash donation of GH₵100,000 to support the treatment of victims of the El-Wak Sports Stadium stampede that occurred during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, led a high-powered delegation of parliamentary leadership to the 37 Military Hospital on Wednesday to visit and sympathize with the injured victims and their families.

Speaking during the visit, the Speaker said the gesture represents a token of Parliament’s solidarity with those affected and underscores the institution’s commitment to the welfare and safety of all citizens.

“The tragedy at El-Wak touches the heart of every Ghanaian. As representatives of the people, it is our duty to stand with the victims and support them in every way possible,” the Speaker said.

He further extended Parliament’s condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and commended medical officers at the 37 Military Hospital for their tireless efforts in attending to the injured.

The El-Wak stampede, which occurred during a recruitment exercise for the Ghana Armed Forces, left several injured and at least six people dead, prompting widespread national grief and calls for improved crowd management measures at public events.
