Amoah’s absence will not be an edge for Hearts of Oak – Former Hearts midfielder Joseph Tagoe

Former Accra Hearts of Oak midfielder, Joseph Tagoe says any player can emerge from anywhere and take the spotlight, hence the absence of Albert Amoah will not be an advantage to his former club.

The two giant clubs will lock horns in the first leg of the Ghana Premier League Match Day 9 Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, November 9.

However, Kotoko will be without the services of talisman, Albert Amoah who signed for Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi last week following their exit from the CAF Confederations Cup.

According to Tagoe, a player can be outstanding for you to ask if he plays for any of these club, adding that he does not agree Amoah’s absence will cause problems for the Phobians.

Speaking in an Interview with LinusNartey TV on YouTube ahead of the game, Joe Tagoe says things look like look ‘spiritual’ and it does occur in humans.

“I do not believe so because a player can perform well for you to ask if he plays for Hearts of Kotoko. It looks like spirit, and it occurs in humans. For instance, during the days of Eric Bekoe, Dan Coleman always marked him. We all knew Bekoe was hot, but no one saw him in that game. So for Hearts and Kotoko games, it depends on the player who is bold and wants to prove. Those players take the spotlight,”he said.

The petite ball juggler also spoke on how the tempo of these games has reduced, citing how fans used to travel from far to watch matches as compared to the past.

“For now people do not really watch football as compared to the crowd in the past when you travel to other venues. But for Hearts and Kotoko, when the fans chant names, you will be confused on the field. As a player, you must have the zeal to be remarkable, so for me, I do not believe that the absence of a striker will be an advantage for another.

Any player can come out from anywhere to grab the headlines in Hearts and Kotoko games,” he added.

The last meeting between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko was in August when the Phobians posted a convincing 2-0 in the 2025 Ghalca Top 4 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Hearts of Oak will be hoping to build on their 2-1 win over Basake Holy Stars in their last league game, likewise the Porcupine Warriors who were 4-2 winners against Karela United.

Tagoe had stints with Accra Great Olympics and Ebusua Dwarfs in Ghana, and also played in Nigeria and Egypt.
