Dame Rejects Jakpa’s Claims As “Sour Grapes” In CID Appearance

Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has firmly denied allegations of evidence fabrication, dismissing accusations by Richard Jakpa as politically motivated attempts to derail justice.

Dame appeared at the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters on Monday morning, accompanied by a team of seventy lawyers, to address a petition filed against him by Jakpa, who serves as Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

The controversy stems from the ongoing ambulance procurement trial, where both Jakpa and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson face charges as co-accused.

In his September petition to the CID, Jakpa alleged that Dame attempted to manipulate his testimony to implicate Dr. Ato Forson during the trial proceedings.

The accusations center on claims that the former Attorney-General sought to fabricate evidence through improper communications aimed at influencing Jakpa’s court statements.

Responding to these allegations during his CID appearance, Dame characterized Jakpa’s petition as fundamentally flawed and driven by personal grievances rather than genuine legal concerns.

He described the accusations as baseless fabrications stemming from Jakpa’s disappointment over Dame’s refusal to drop prosecution charges against him.

According to Dame, Jakpa had previously sought intervention through meetings involving Supreme Court Justice Kulendi, requesting that the prosecution be discontinued, but these appeals were rejected.

Dame argued that Jakpa’s current accusations represent nothing more than retaliation for maintaining prosecutorial integrity in the face of pressure.

He characterized the petition as a desperate maneuver designed to obstruct the course of justice by undermining the credibility of the prosecution’s case.

The former Attorney-General emphasized that all matters related to the ambulance trial have been properly adjudicated through the courts, with the High Court having already determined that Jakpa has a case to answer at the close of the prosecution’s case.

The appearance of seventy lawyers alongside Dame underscored the seriousness with which the former Attorney-General is treating these allegations.

Legal observers note that such a substantial legal team is unusual for routine CID questioning, suggesting Dame views this as a significant challenge to his professional reputation and the integrity of his tenure as Ghana’s chief prosecutor.

This development adds another layer of complexity to the already contentious ambulance procurement case, which has drawn considerable public attention since its inception.

The case involves allegations surrounding the procurement of ambulances during a previous administration, with questions raised about contractual irregularities and financial impropriety.

As investigations continue, the CID must now navigate the delicate task of examining accusations against a former Attorney-General while the underlying trial proceeds through Ghana’s judicial system.

The outcome of the CID’s investigation could have far-reaching implications for prosecutorial conduct standards and the relationship between accused persons and state prosecutors in Ghana’s criminal justice system.
