WAFU U20 Girls’ Cup: Ghana secures 2-0 win over Benin in opening game 

The Black Princesses of Ghana were 2–0 winners over Benin in the opening game of the WAFU  U20 Girls’ Cup on Friday in Benin.

Goals from Linda Owusu and Sarah in each halves were enough to give the girls a huge boost ahead of their next game.

 The Princesses prove more experienced than their opponents, with few incursions in the early stages of the game, Ghana opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. 

With a cool touch, Linda Owusu scored from a loose ball inside the penalty box to give Ghana the lead. 

Back from recess, the Princesses doubled their advantage in the 77th minute through Sarah Nyarko’s long-range drive outside the penalty area. 

Ghana held on to their 2-0 lead as Nafisa Musah was adjudged the Women of the Match following her outstanding performance for the Princesses. 

Ghana will face tough opponents Nigeria in their next game on Saturday. 

The six-day tournament, running from November 7 to 12, 2025, will see West Africa’s brightest young female talents compete for supremacy and regional pride. 

It also serves as a valuable preparatory platform for national teams ahead of upcoming CAF and FIFA youth competitions.
