Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars are reportedly on the verge of appointing experienced tactician Maxwell Konadu as their new head coach following the mutual departure of Stephen Frimpong Manso.
The development comes after the club officially parted company with coach Frimpong Manso following their 2-0 first-leg defeat to Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League.
Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is set to be named the new head coach of Bibiani GoldStars following the departure of Frimpong Manso, according to multiple reports from reliable sources within Ghanaian football circles.
The 52-year-old coach brings a wealth of experience to the Western North Region-based club, having managed several top-flight teams in Ghana’s domestic league.
Konadu’s appointment would mark his return to active club management after a brief stint in South Africa with Black Leopards, which ended in February 2025.
Konadu signed a three-year contract with the club in July 2024 but parted ways after just 17 games, describing the experience as valuable learning despite the premature conclusion.
Since then, he has been selective about his next move, previously stating his intention to wait until the end of the 2024/25 season before deciding on his next club.
The veteran coach’s domestic career includes successful spells at prominent Ghanaian clubs. His managerial career includes stints at Eleven Wonders, Legon Cities, Asante Kotoko, and most recently, Nsoatreman FC, where he guided the team to FA Cup victory and subsequent CAF Confederation Cup qualification.
With Asante Kotoko, Konadu achieved significant success, winning the Ghana Premier League three times during his tenure with the Porcupine Warriors.
Beyond club management, Konadu has extensive experience with Ghana’s national teams. He has served as assistant coach to the senior Black Stars and has taken charge of various youth national teams, including recent appointments with the Black Meteors (U-23) and Black Satellites (U-20).
This international experience could prove invaluable for Gold Stars as they continue their maiden CAF Champions League campaign.
The timing of Konadu’s potential appointment is crucial for Bibiani Gold Stars. Bibiani GoldStars won their maiden Ghana Premier League title in June 2025 in dramatic style, marking a historic achievement for the relatively young club founded in 1998.
However, their continental debut has proven challenging, with the heavy home defeat to JS Kabylie ultimately costing Manso his position.
Manso’s departure, described as mutual by club officials, ends a tenure that began in December 2023 when he replaced Michael Osei.
Under his guidance, Gold Stars achieved their greatest success by claiming the Premier League title, but the pressure of continental competition and the disappointing result against the Algerian side appears to have influenced the decision for a change in leadership.
Should the appointment be confirmed, Konadu will face the immediate challenge of overturning the two-goal deficit in the return leg against JS Kabylie while maintaining Gold Stars’ domestic form.
He has built a reputation as a tactician capable of guiding teams to domestic and continental success, making him a trusted figure in Ghanaian football circles.
The potential appointment represents a significant statement of intent from Gold Stars’ management, showing their commitment to competing at the highest level both domestically and continentally.
Konadu’s experience in pressure situations and his track record with Ghanaian clubs position him as an ideal candidate to lead the champions through this transitional period and help establish them as a consistent force in African football.
