GFA Appoints Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah As New Football Stakeholders Committee Chairman

The Ghana Football Association has made a strategic appointment in naming Hon. Dickson Kyere-Duah, Member of Parliament for Berekum West Constituency, as Chairman of the Football Stakeholders Committee.

This appointment represents a significant step in the GFA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships across Ghana’s football ecosystem and ensure broader representation in decision-making processes.

Hon. Kyere-Duah brings a unique combination of expertise to his new role, having established himself across multiple sectors before entering politics.

His background includes work as a sports consultant, lecturer, and sports journalist before his election to Parliament, providing him with intimate knowledge of both the media landscape and the operational challenges facing Ghana’s football industry.

The appointment leverages his dual understanding of public policy and sports administration, positioning him to effectively bridge the gap between government interests and football stakeholders.

His parliamentary experience, particularly representing a constituency with strong football traditions, adds valuable perspective to the role.

To ensure effective committee operations, the GFA has named Fred Pappoe as Vice Chairman of the Committee.

Pappoe’s appointment brings considerable institutional memory to the leadership structure, having previously served in key GFA positions, including Vice President and Executive Council member.

His extensive experience with Black Stars management provides crucial continuity and deep understanding of Ghana football’s administrative landscape.

The committee composition reflects a deliberate strategy to incorporate diverse expertise from across the football community.

Other distinguished members include Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei, former MP for La Dadekotopon; Dr. Francis Bediako, experienced sports administrator; John Ansah, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA); Dr. Adams Baba, former Black Stars team doctor and current board chairman of Karela United FC; and Haminu Dramani, former Black Stars winger.

The Football Stakeholders Committee operates with an extensive mandate designed to strengthen relationships across Ghana’s football landscape.

The committee will coordinate management of relationships between Clubs, Players (active and retired), Leagues, GHALCA, Regional Football Associations, Government, Media, Schools/Colleges, Security Agencies, Ghana Health Service and the GFA.

This broad scope addresses longstanding challenges in Ghana football, where coordination between various interest groups has sometimes been fragmented.

The committee’s role in developing policy manuals for stakeholder engagement represents a move toward more systematic and professional relationship management.

The committee’s responsibilities extend beyond relationship management to include strategic communication initiatives.

Working with the Awards and Events Committee and GFA Executive Council, they will hold periodic quarterly, half-yearly, and yearly stakeholder engagements through forums, seminars, and socialization gatherings.

This structured approach to stakeholder communication addresses previous criticism about limited transparency and consultation in Ghana football administration.

Regular engagement sessions should provide platforms for addressing concerns and gathering input from diverse football constituencies.

Beyond coordination and communication, the committee will undertake research functions to proactively address emerging issues.

They are mandated to conduct research on issues of major interest to stakeholder groups and address these issues proactively, suggesting a forward-looking approach to football development challenges.

The research component positions the committee to anticipate rather than simply react to developments in Ghana football, potentially improving strategic planning and resource allocation across the football ecosystem.

Hon. Kyere-Duah’s appointment signals the GFA’s recognition that football development requires broader stakeholder buy-in and more systematic engagement processes.

The appointment signals the GFA’s renewed commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and broad-based consultation to drive the development of football in Ghana.

The committee structure addresses multiple challenges simultaneously: improving government relations through parliamentary representation, strengthening media relationships through experienced sports journalism backgrounds, and enhancing club coordination through GHALCA representation.

The establishment of this comprehensive stakeholder committee under experienced leadership represents an important institutional development for Ghana football.

Success will ultimately be measured by improved coordination between various football constituencies and more effective implementation of development programs.

With Ghana football facing ongoing challenges in infrastructure development, youth football programs, and international competitiveness, the stakeholder committee’s ability to facilitate better cooperation and resource mobilization will be crucial for long-term progress.

The committee’s work begins at a critical time, with Ghana football seeking to rebuild credibility and effectiveness following various administrative challenges in recent years.

Hon. Kyere-Duah’s leadership will be closely watched as a test case for enhanced stakeholder engagement in Ghana football governance.
