The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations, including three under Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited, for failing to address regulatory violations despite a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama.
This move follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama, aimed at giving defaulting stations the opportunity to rectify violations of the laws governing FM radio broadcasting in the country.
Six stations, including Donplus Multimedia Limited in Ho, Dreams Ghana Media Limited in New Abirem, Jam Multimedia Limited in Kintampo, Jewel Group Limited in Duayaw Nkwanta, Kpandai Star Community Radio in Kpandai, and Unique Gateway Communication Limited in Nkawkaw, were shut down after failing to act on the regulatory amnesty.
Additionally, three stations under Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited, operating in Accra (95.9 FM), Kumasi (101.3 FM), and Takoradi (101.3 FM) were suspended for operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance, in breach of Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991). These violations included the unauthorized use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations.
The NCA emphasized its commitment to monitoring the broadcasting space to ensure full compliance with authorization conditions and relevant regulations governing broadcasting services in Ghana.
