President Mahama Meets Leadership Of SDA Church, Calls For Intensified Partnership For National Development

President John Dramani Mahama has extended an invitation to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church to strengthen collaborative efforts with his administration in critical sectors including healthcare, education, technical and vocational education training (TVET), and agribusiness development.

The call for enhanced partnership was made during a high-level courtesy visit by senior Adventist Church leaders to the presidency, where the delegation offered congratulations on Mahama’s return to office as Ghana’s president since January 2025 and pledged the church’s continued support for national development initiatives.

Pastor Dr. Chris Annan Nunoo, Executive Secretary of the Southern Ghana Union Conference, led the distinguished delegation and assured President Mahama of the church’s readiness to expand collaboration across multiple development sectors.

The church’s commitment extends through the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), which operates in more than 120 countries to fight poverty and create sustainable change.

The meeting highlighted the Adventist Church’s established track record in Ghana’s development landscape, particularly through educational and healthcare institutions.

Valley View University, established in 1979 by the West African Union Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, represents one of the church’s flagship contributions to higher education in Ghana, offering programs spanning business, technology, health sciences, and agribusiness.

The delegation included prominent church leaders and professionals: Dr. Edward Nyarkoh, President of North Central Union Mission; Dr. Alex Agyapong, Executive Secretary of Mid-Ghana Union Conference; and Prof. William Kofi Koomson, Vice Chancellor of Valley View University.

Notable attendees also included Hon. Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Adventist Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, and Dr. Isaac Kankam-Boadu, Director of ADRA Ghana, who brings nearly 20 years of experience in agriculture and food security program implementation.

The healthcare sector partnership holds particular significance, with Dr. James Antwi, Director of Ghana Adventist Health Service, presented to discuss expanded collaboration.

The Adventist health network includes facilities like Valley View University Hospital, established in 2008 as part of Ghana Adventist Health Services.

President Mahama’s emphasis on TVET alignment reflects his administration’s focus on skills development and youth empowerment.

The Adventist Church’s educational infrastructure, managed by Mrs. Lydia Abrefi Nsiah, as General Manager of Adventist Schools Ghana, positions the partnership to significantly impact vocational training across the country.

This collaboration builds upon the church’s historical commitment to community development in Ghana, leveraging decades of institutional expertise to support the government’s development agenda in areas critical to national progress.
