The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has inaugurated the ‘Child Caregiving Centre’ on May 30, 2025.
This new facility aims to provide a safe and caring space for the children of Ministry staff, especially benefiting nursing mothers.
The launch event saw the presence of important figures, including Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.
During her speech, Dr. Lartey highlighted the Ministry’s dedication to protecting the rights and welfare of vulnerable groups, particularly children. “We have a duty to our own staff,” she remarked, acknowledging their vital role in maintaining productivity within the Ministry.
The Child Caregiving Centre caters to infants and toddlers aged zero to three years. Its goal is to ease the burden on working parents by ensuring their children receive quality care while they are at work. Dr. Lartey stressed the significance of early childhood development and its impact on children’s cognitive, physical, and social skills.
“This initiative demonstrates President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to prioritizing early childhood care and development,” she noted. “We are creating nurturing environments where young children can thrive.”
Dr. Afisah Zakariah, Chief Director of MoGCSP, referred to the centre as a strategic initiative aimed at empowering working parents. “By providing a secure environment for their children, we allow our staff to concentrate on their duties without worry,” she stated.
Her Excellency Berenice Owen-Jones, Australia’s Ambassador to Ghana, praised the initiative and encouraged other Ministries and Agencies to implement similar programs in support of working families.
After the speeches, guests were invited to tour the facility and witness firsthand the child-friendly environment designed for optimal early childhood growth.
With this Child Caregiving Centre, MoGCSP sets a new standard in workplace support initiatives focused on enhancing family well-being while boosting employee productivity.
