The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), on Tuesday, 18th February, 2026, received the Ambassador of the European Union, His Excellency Rune Skinnebach, for high-level discussions aimed at deepening cooperation between Ghana and the European Union.
The meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between Ghana and the European Union, with particular emphasis on promoting peace and security. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to democratic governance, regional stability, and sustainable development.

Honourable Ablakwa acknowledged the European Union as one of Ghana’s key development partners, highlighting its significant contributions in critical sectors such as trade, education, and security. He noted that ongoing strategic engagements between the two parties continue to yield positive outcomes and expressed optimism that enhanced collaboration would further consolidate the gains made over the years.
The Minister underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and coordinated action in addressing emerging global and regional challenges, including security threats and economic vulnerabilities. He emphasized that Ghana values its partnership with the European Union and remains committed to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation frameworks.
On his part, Ambassador Skinnebach reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to fostering an impactful and responsive partnership with Ghana. He assured the Minister of the EU’s readiness to provide the necessary support in Ghana’s priority areas, particularly in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and socio-economic development.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing confidence in the continued growth of Ghana–European Union relations and their shared vision for a stable and prosperous future.
