Ghana Confirms Two New Mpox Cases, Four Cases Recorded So Far

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed two additional cases of Mpox — one in the Greater Accra Region and another in the Western Region — bringing the country’s total number of confirmed cases to four as of May 18, 2025.

The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) have announced two new confirmed cases of Mpox, following their last update on May 15, 2025.

The new cases, identified through the National Public Health and Reference Laboratory (NPHRL), were detected in the Greater Accra and Western Regions.

This development raises Ghana’s total confirmed Mpox cases to four. According to a statement released on May 18, 2025, health officials have activated public health measures, including contact tracing, in efforts to prevent further transmission of the virus.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the newly reported cases do not have epidemiological links to earlier ones.

Mpox is a viral disease transmitted to humans through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials.

Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, back pain, muscle aches, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.

In response, the GHS strongly advises the public to:Practice regular hand hygiene, Avoid close contact with individuals exhibiting symptoms such as rashes,

Report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility immediately.

The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service are urging all media houses to help educate the public by disseminating accurate information and promoting awareness about Mpox.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, assuring citizens that appropriate measures will continue to be enforced to contain the outbreak.
