Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, was arrested yesterday at his residence in Kumasi by national security operatives as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure.
Security personnel reportedly presented a warrant on their mobile device before taking Jumah into custody. Despite his requests to change clothes, he was promptly escorted to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for questioning.
Allegations Under Investigation:
- Suspicious Vehicle Purchase: Jumah is accused of acquiring a luxury Genesis G90 sedan at GH¢ 4,943.11—dramatically below its market value of approximately GH¢ 98,862.00.
- Unauthorized Property Sales: He allegedly sold GIHOC properties in Tema valued at over $700,000 without proper authorization.
- Retention of Official Vehicles: Reports indicate that Jumah retained two official company vehicles, including an Audi worth over $60,000. One vehicle was reportedly used by his son.
The arrest has ignited debate, with some observers suggesting the move may be politically motivated. However, authorities maintain that the investigation is focused solely on uncovering financial improprieties.
GHIOC Distilleries has yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrest.
