EU, Ghana Strengthens Economic Ties

The EU-Ghana Business Forum held yesterday in Accra marked a significant milestone in the strengthening of economic ties between Ghana and the European Union.

His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama delivered a compelling address, outlining his vision for economic diversification and calling for increased EU investments to propel Ghana’s growth trajectory.

In his keynote speech, President Mahama highlighted the dynamism of EU-Ghana trade, noting that bilateral trade has surged to an impressive €6.7 billion.

He praised the Global Gateway initiative as a critical driver of this economic partnership, emphasizing its role in enhancing infrastructure and connectivity across the continent.

“Today, we stand at a crossroads of opportunity,” President Mahama stated. “By deepening our collaboration with the EU, we can unlock new avenues for investment and innovation that will benefit our people and economy.”

The forum featured Honorable Lawyer Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Trade and Agrobusiness, who presented strategic proposals aimed at expanding Ghanaian businesses in the European market.

Her insights focused on stimulating trade ties and creating a more favorable environment for local enterprises to thrive.

“Ghana is ripe for investment,” Minister Ofosu-Adjare asserted. “Our government is committed to creating conditions that support business growth and facilitate access to the EU market.”

Myriam Ferran, Deputy Director-General of International Partnerships at the European Commission, echoed these sentiments, confirming Team Europe’s readiness to bolster investment in Ghana.

She emphasized the importance of supporting local value chains and job creation as fundamental elements of sustainable development.

“The Global Gateway initiative represents a transformative opportunity for both Ghana and Europe,” Ferran remarked. “Together, we can build resilient economies that empower our communities.”

The forum attracted over 800 participants, including business leaders, government officials, and diplomats from various EU member states.

The presence of 10 fellow Ambassadors underscored the collective commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

As Ghana looks towards a future enriched by enhanced partnerships with Europe, today’s discussions signal the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral relations—one rooted in shared aspirations for economic prosperity and sustainable development.
