Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has officially been sworn in as the new Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
The ceremony took place on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen governance and strategic leadership at one of Ghana’s most vital infrastructure institutions.
Alongside Asiedu Nketiah’s appointment, Professor Ransford Gyampo, acting CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, was also sworn in as a member of the newly constituted GPHA board.
The new team is charged with guiding policy direction, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving infrastructure expansion projects across Ghana’s key port facilities.
The government’s move to refresh the GPHA board aligns with ongoing initiatives to boost the country’s port capacity and competitiveness in regional and international trade.
With increasing maritime traffic and economic activities dependent on efficient port operations, robust leadership is seen as critical to unlocking growth opportunities.
In his new role, Asiedu Nketiah is expected to leverage his extensive leadership experience to ensure that the GPHA delivers on its mandate to provide world-class port services while supporting Ghana’s broader economic development goals.
Professor Gyampo brings a wealth of academic insight and practical knowledge from his tenure at the Ghana Shippers Authority, promising balanced governance that addresses both operational challenges and strategic policy considerations.
Stakeholders in the maritime sector have welcomed the appointments, expressing optimism that the new board will enhance transparency, improve service delivery, and accelerate modernization efforts at Ghana’s ports.
