Mahama Appoints COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno As New IGP

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s time as head of the Ghana Police Service as finally come to an end as President John Dramani Mahama has named Christian Tetteh Yohuno to take over.

On Thursday, March 13, the presidency announced this decision in a press release signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications.

According to the statement, President Mahama consulted the Council of State before making the appointment in line with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution.

As the new government works to reorganize important security organizations, the move signifies a dramatic shift in leadership within the Ghana Police Service.

At a time when the police force is going through significant changes, COP Yohuno, a seasoned officer with forty years of law enforcement experience, takes on the position of IGP.

The government’s faith in Yohuno’s ability to effectively manage the service, guaranteeing increased professionalism and security nationwide, was emphasized in the news release.
