The Rector of Fanaka International University College, Professor Samuel Agyei-Amponsah, has called on Ghanaians to embrace cybersecurity education as a critical tool in addressing the growing wave of cyber threats confronting the country.
According to Professor Agyei-Amponsah, increasing public awareness and education on cybersecurity is essential to protecting individuals, businesses, and national institutions from cybercrime.
He noted that Ghana’s rapidly expanding digital economy has created new opportunities but has also exposed the country to sophisticated cybercriminal activities.
He made the remarks during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fanaka International University College and Chayil SecureX, a partnership aimed at strengthening cybersecurity education and building digital resilience across the country.

Professor Agyei-Amponsah expressed concern over the rising incidence of cybercrime in Ghana, pointing out that reported cybersecurity incidents have increased by 52 percent year-on-year.
He explained that cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting the country’s growing digital infrastructure through mobile money fraud, phishing scams, identity theft, and other forms of online attacks.
He warned that failure to invest in cybersecurity education could have serious consequences for individuals, organizations, and the nation as a whole, stressing that cybersecurity should be treated as a shared responsibility rather than the concern of technology professionals alone.
“The increasing dependence on digital platforms requires all citizens to understand how to protect themselves and their information from cyber threats,” he said, adding that education remains one of the most effective ways to reduce cyber risks.
Chief Executive Officer of Chayil SecureX, Charles Fiifi Hagan, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, describing it as a significant step toward equipping Ghanaians with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital space safely.
He said the collaboration would focus on promoting cybersecurity awareness and training to help safeguard citizens and institutions against emerging cyber threats, which, if left unchecked, could pose a serious national security risk.
Mr. Hagan emphasized that strengthening cybersecurity education would not only protect individuals and businesses but also contribute to Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda by fostering trust and confidence in digital services.
The partnership between Fanaka International University College and Chayil Secure X is expected to deliver training programs, awareness campaigns, and capacity-building initiatives designed to improve cybersecurity knowledge and preparedness across various sectors of the economy.
