YAWC Chairman Calls for Collective Support in Women’s Empowerment Agenda

Chairman of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network, Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor, has described the government’s proposal to establish a special bank for women as a commendable initiative, stressing, however, that individuals and private organizations must also play active roles in advancing women’s empowerment in Ghana.

According to him, achieving meaningful progress in women’s economic development requires a collective effort beyond government interventions alone.

Mr. Osei Tuffour made these remarks during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network and Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG), a partnership aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaian women, particularly market women.

He noted that the collaboration seeks to empower women through financial inclusion, business support, and educational initiatives that will help them become financially independent.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Osei Tuffour revealed that both institutions are targeting more than 500,000 beneficiaries by the year 2028.

According to him, the partnership plans to achieve this goal by providing financial literacy education, mentorship, and assistance for women to access loans to support and expand their businesses.

He emphasized that many women, especially those in the informal sector, face difficulties in accessing financial support and business knowledge, adding that the initiative is expected to bridge that gap and create sustainable opportunities for women across the country.

The partnership between YAWC and Consolidated Bank Ghana is expected to strengthen efforts toward women empowerment and promote economic growth among women-led businesses in Ghana.
