GPL MD 9: Kotoko ends Hearts unbeaten run, Medeama drop points as Wonders search for first win

The Ghana Premier League Match Day 8 fixtures ended on Sunday with the Super Clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium

The Porcupine Warriors secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over arch rivals to end the Phobians unbeaten run, having won four and drawn four in eight games.

Morifing Donzo’ spot kick was the magic for the visitors who were keen on handling Hearts their first defeat of the campaign.

The Phobians started brightly, stringing a few passes in midfield, but it was Kotoko who caused the first incursion in the 17th minute.

Minutes on, Hearts Abora Duku made a run with the ball, but his final pass did not fall on the part of Hamza.

In the 44th minute, Kotoko was awarded a penalty kick when Peter Amidu Acquah was brought down by Amakwah Baafi in the penalty box.

Morifing Donzo sent goalie Benjamin Asare the wrong way with a top volley to give Kotoko the lead.

Back from recess, Amidu Acquah missed from close range before Samba O’Neil’s header missed narrowly.

In the latter part of the second half, Hearts scored from a Mawuli Waymo’s excellent bicycle kick, but center man Reginald ruled it an offside as Kotoko held on to Donzo solitary goal to earn all three points.

At the Kpando Sports Stadium, Atta Agyei Paul’s 89th minute winner sealed all three points for Hearts of Lions against Berekum Chelsea.

Agyemang Paul and Tweneboah Prince registered all two goals for Basake Koly Stars in their 2-0 win over Gold Stars.

At the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex, Karela United and Dreams Complex, Karela shared spoils in a 1-1 stalemate.

Abubakar Malik scored for Karela while Suraj Seidu pulled the leveler for Dreams FC.

Young Apostle won  3-2 over Bechem United, while League leaders Medeama SC played out a pulsating goalless draw with Aduana Stars.
