Ghana 1-3 Nigeria: Defending champions Black Princesses lose to Falconets in WAFU U20 Girls Cup

Ghana’s women U20 team, Black Princesses lost 1-3 to Falconets of Nigeria in their second game of the WAFU Girls Cup in Benin on Saturday morning.

On the side of Nigeria, it was a pleasant revenge for the Falconets after they lost to Ghana in last year’s final.

A double from Janet Seimeyeha and another from Chiamaka Favor gave Nigeria a commanding 3-1 victory over rivals Ghana, with Sarah Nyarko grabbing the consolation for the Princesses.

It was a game Nigeria approached with determination, and it showed when they fetched the opening goal before the first half break.

Janet Seimeyeha powered the Falconets ahead with a cool penalty in the 38th minute after a foul inside the penalty box.

She doubled her tally to register Nigeria’s second with the final touch in the first stanza with a decent chip over the goalkeeper.

The forward mounted an intense pressure on Ghana’s defender who failed to clear the ball out of play.

Minutes into the second period, Sarah Nyarko followed up with a rebound inside the penalty box after the crossbar denied the first shot in the 49th minute.

It was Nyarko’s second of the tournament after she grabbed her first in Ghana’s 2-0 win over Benin in the opener.

The Nigerians placed the icing on the cake with a late goal from a corner kick.

Favor Chiamaka’s 88th minute goal sealed a comfortable victory for the Falconets.
