The 2025/26 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League kicked off in the Southern Zone with an impressive performance from reigning champions, Police Ladies who recorded an outstanding 4-1 win over Halifax Queens at the Madina AstroTurf on Friday.

A double each from Grace Animah and skipper Deborah Afriyie was enough for the Coach Yusif Basigi and his charges to assert their dominance after a standout season.

Police Ladies proved very tough for their opponents in the early stages of the game, and instantly broke the deadlock in the 11th minute from Grace Animah’s long range.

After 30 minutes of action, the service ladies doubled their advantage when skipper Deborah Afriyie strike from close range.

Afriyie registered her brace and Polas third in the 55th minute, connecting well from a low cross to deepen the woes of the visitors.

With the game approaching full-time, Cecilia Acquah grabbed the needed consolation in the 79th minute before, Grace Animah placed the icing on the cake with the fourth goal, marking her first double of the season in the 85th minute.
