Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre on Saturday after falling ill on Friday, March 28, 2025.
Fortunately, she received the necessary treatment, but expert medical opinion recommends that she seek further care abroad.
The 73-year-old Vice President has been a trailblazer in Ghanaian politics, serving as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and later as the Minister for Education.
Her leadership and advocacy for education, gender equity, and social justice have been widely recognized.
The exact nature of her illness is unknown for now, and the Presidency has not disclosed any further details.
However, the government has assured the public that Vice President Opoku-Agyemang is receiving the best possible medical attention, and has wished her a speedy recovery.
