Two Arrested In Connection With Theft Of ECG Cables

The Central Regional Police Command has apprehended two suspects in connection with the transportation of stolen electricity cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Mohammed Sulemana and Iddrisu Basit, both driver’s mates of an articulated truck, were arrested on April 1, 2025, at Gomoa Awombrew in the Central Region.

According to the police, the truck, with registration number GC 7410-11, was found parked at Gomoa Awombrew, carrying 28 rims of ECG cables.

Officials from ECG, led by Operations Officer Mr. David Ackom, confirmed ownership of the cables but stated that no such consignment was expected in the area.

The police are still searching for the driver, Zibo Imoro, who is currently on the run. The truck remains under police guard as investigations continue.

This arrest is a significant step in combating cable theft, which has been a persistent issue in Ghana. The Ghana Police Service has been working tirelessly to address this problem, and this latest development is a testament to their efforts.
